Ukraine Secures Major Defense Commitments from Belgium, Spain
Fedorov disclosed the agreements via Telegram following separate high-level talks with Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken and Spanish counterpart Margarita Robles, covering a broad range of security priorities — including reinforced air defenses, accelerated drone development, and long-range artillery supplies under the so-called "Czech initiative."
Belgium went further, committing to the transfer of additional F-16 fighter jets to Kyiv, along with a guaranteed pipeline of spare parts to keep its existing fleet mission-ready.
Talks with Madrid centered on deepening industrial defense ties, with a particular focus on opportunities opening up through the European SAFE funding mechanism.
Fedorov signaled Kyiv's readiness to move quickly on joint production, stating: "We are ready to offer a list of manufacturers that can establish cooperation with Spanish companies." He added that Ukraine has extended an offer to put Spanish-made drones through live combat testing on the front lines — a proposition that underscores Kyiv's growing role as a real-world proving ground for European defense technology.
The twin billion-euro pledges mark a significant escalation in European military backing as Ukraine continues to press its allies for sustained, long-term support.
