Ukraine Announces Drone Cooperation Deal with Gulf States

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kyiv has signed what he described as “three major security documents” with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, referring to them collectively as a “drone deal,” according to reports.

In a statement shared on Telegram, Zelenskyy said the agreements will be carried out through a combination of public and private sector contracts involving Ukraine and the participating Middle Eastern countries.

He noted that the arrangements include plans for the development of low-cost drone systems and joint production facilities. According to his remarks, the initiative focuses on expanding cooperation in unmanned aerial technology, including co-manufacturing capabilities.

Zelenskyy also pointed to the cost difference between drones and interception systems, stating that some drones can range between 80,000 and 130,000 dollars, while interceptor systems may cost significantly less, around 10,000 dollars. He suggested that this cost imbalance makes such defensive technologies strategically important.

He added that Ukraine is open to sharing its experience in drone production with other partners, including the United States, as part of broader defense cooperation efforts.

The Ukrainian president also reiterated his position on the ongoing conflict with Russia, saying he supports the deployment of international forces along the front line as part of any potential settlement framework.

In separate remarks, he commented on broader regional developments, expressing support for ceasefire efforts in the Middle East while also raising concerns that Russia could potentially benefit from such shifts in global attention.
