Ukraine Says It Has Reclaimed Territory from Russian Forces

(MENAFN) Ukraine’s top military commander has said that Ukrainian forces have regained more than 600 square kilometers of territory from Russian control since the beginning of 2026, amid ongoing fighting across multiple fronts.

According to reports, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi made the claim in a statement posted on Telegram, saying Ukrainian troops continue to hold the initiative in certain sectors of the frontline.

He also stated that during the current month alone, Ukrainian forces had retaken nearly 100 square kilometers more territory than they lost in the same period.

“In total, more than 600 square kilometers of Ukrainian land have been liberated since the beginning of the year,” Syrskyi said, without providing precise locations of the reported advances.

He added that Russian forces continue attempts to push forward in eastern and southern Ukraine, with a noticeable increase in the number of clashes along the front.

According to reports, Syrskyi identified the Pokrovsk, Oleksandrivka, and Huliaipole sectors as some of the areas experiencing the heaviest fighting.
